Adaptxt is innovative language software that provides context-based suggestions using “type-ahead technology”. The Adaptxt suggestion bar displays word suggestions during text entry; these are word completion and next word suggestions.
Adaptxt also provides various language and industry specific dictionaries (Add-Ons) to suit your typing needs. Language-specific keyboards are provided with each Add-On
Adaptxt Engine is available on Android, Symbian, MeeGo, Windows Mobile, Windows and Linux.
Adaptxt UI is available on Android, Symbian & Windows Mobile.
Adaptxt provides a wide variety of Add-On dictionaries, both language and industry-specific. The latter provide field-specific language intelligence including words related to a given profession, such as medicine or finance. These ‘domain’ dictionaries are aimed at business users. On the other hand, over 40 language dictionaries are available to users all around the world to text in the language of their choice.
You can download add-on dictionaries from Nokia Ovi store on your Nokia S60 devices and also from Android Market Apps. For Windows mobiles, you can place a request for the add-on dictionaries from here.
1. Open a text entry application, such as Messaging.
2. Tap and hold the Compose text box and select Adaptxt as the Input Method option.
3. The Adaptxt suggestion bar appears above the keyboard displaying word suggestions.
4. Tap keys to enter text. Tap the 123# key to enter numbers and punctuation marks; alternatively, long press a key to input numerics or symbols. Tap the 1/2 or 2/2 key for more symbols
On 12-key pad press 12? > !@# > 1/6 to scroll between the pages with symbols and punctuation marks.
Press “ABC” key to return to the primary layout.
5. Adaptxt offers word suggestions in the suggestion bar. Tap the down arrow key in the bar to view more suggestions.
6. To select one of the suggestions, tap a word once. The suggestion will be added to your text and a space is inserted after the suggestion.
Adaptxt word completions and alternatives are given in the suggestion bar. Additionally, Auto Correction feature is provided in full QWERTY layout. It lets you insert corrections automatically, with a tap of a space bar. The Auto Correction candidate always appears as the first suggestions, in a highlighted background. To select the Auto Correction candidate, tap on the space bar.
Yes. Adaptxt learns new words in real time as you type them. These new words are added to My Dictionary and offered as suggestions later.
On Nokia S60 devices, Adaptxt allows users to scan Calendar entries, Phonebook contacts, SMS and email inbox, sent items and their Facebook profile to learn new words.
You can store up to 1500 words in the personal dictionary (My Dictionary). You are also allowed to delete words and manage My Dictionary!
Adaptxt can help with field-specific email or editing a business proposal on your device by providing finely tuned industry-specific dictionaries (choice of 5 disciplines in several languages). Adaptxt also looks out for your typos, providing alternative words as Error Correction feature.
Adaptxt supports all Android smartphones running Android 2.1 (Eclair) and higher.
1. Go to device Settings > Applications to open the Google Play Apps page or go directly here and install Adaptxt application.
2. Follow the steps of the installation wizard. Step 2 will ask you to download the language. Open Adaptxt Store tab from Adaptxt application and tap on the language(s) you wish to install.
3. Follow the steps of the installation wizard and finalise the installation. Please make sure you don’t skip the step where you press and hold the text field and set the Input Method as ‘Adaptxt’.
4. Open a text entry application and start typing!
If you prefer to cancel the wizard, please follow the steps below to complete the installation:
2. Download Adaptxt Add-Ons over-the-air: go to Adaptxt Settings > Adaptxt Store > Download or Latest and tap to download and enable the dictionaries of your choice.
3. After installing Adaptxt, go to Settings > Language and Keyboard. Tap on Adaptxt to enable it as your input method.
4. Open a text entry application, tap and hold on Compose text box and select Adaptxt as an Input Method.
Adaptxt allows you to change your keyboard language during text entry. Swipe on the space bar to change to the language of your choice (enabled set of languages in Adaptxt Store > Installed).
Go to device Settings > Input Method Settings* > Adaptxt Settings
* varies from device to device, e.g. ‘Language and Keyboard’ or ‘Locale and text’
Alternatively, open any text entry application and press and hold 123#-key (blue Adaptxt symbol printed on it), from Adaptxt keyboard.
Lastly, you can simply go to Menu > All Applications > find Adaptxt (icon) that will take you to Adaptxt Settings.
You can install and enable max. 5 add-on dictionaries.
It is possible to enter many ‘foreign’ Latin-alphabet-based special characters through the Extended Character Bubble, the setting enabled by default. To do so, press and hold a corresponding base letter and select any of the accented variants. If you want to turn off this feature simply visit Adaptxt Settings and untick the corresponding box.
1. Open any text entry application, place the cursor in a text field.
2. Adaptxt suggestion bar appears above the keyboard displaying word suggestions.
3. Tap keys to enter text. Tap on 123# key to enter numbers and punctuation symbols. Tap the 1/2 or 2/2 key for more symbols. Alternatively, press and hold a relevant key to input numerics or symbols shown above the main letters. For example, on QWERTY or QWERTZ keyboards, press and hold ‘Q’ to insert ’1′.
4. Adaptxt offers suggestions for your text in the suggestion bar. Tap on the down arrow key of that bar to view more suggestions.
5. To insert a chosen suggestion, simply tap on it. The suggestion is added to your text, automatically followed by a space.
Auto Correction is offered as an alternative to what’s typed in and as such it’s entered with a tap of a space or selected punctuation keys (exclamation mark, question mark, semi-colon, comma and full-stop). The Auto Correction candidate always appears as the first suggestions, marked with a cross. To dismiss the Auto Correction candidate simply tap on the cross to its left.
You can also select the type of auto correction mode that would suit your typing needs:
• High: Ideal for those who frequently make spelling mistakes
• Medium: Select this mode if your mistakes occur inconsistently
• Low: Ideal for those who rarely make spelling mistakes
To configure these 2 features, go to device Settings > Language and Keyboard > Adaptxt Settings > Advanced Settings > Auto Correction.
Adaptxt is intuitive enough to understand that a user might want to override any of the auto-corrected words, by simply backspacing to that word.
While you type your own word, you can simply tap on the cross next to the auto-correction to dismiss it and enter your own word.
Additionally, when the auto-corrected word is committed, there are 2 ways to revert it:
1) Backspace > the original word is in the suggestion bar > tap it to enter
2) Press the Undo button > the original word is automatically inserted.
In your device settings, tick both ‘Automatic Time and Date’ and ‘Automatic Time Zone’, if such options are available. If not, please set correct time and date manually. We would also recommend using a strong internet connection when attempting a download.
Our new Glide feature comes with the option to customize gestures for a quick launch of your favourite applications, websites and clipboard. To create a custom gesture, please do the following:
1. Open Adaptxt Settings > Glide Beta > Customize Gestures
2. Choose an option from a drop-down menu at the top of a screen (Application/Websites/Clipboard) and press the plus sign.
3. Tap on the square box to the right of “Adaptxt Icon to” and enter a letter (please note that a given letter can only be used for one shortcut).
4. According to the option you have chosen, type in the web URL, choose an application or a clipboard action in the field below. Press “OK”. Your gesture should be saved.
5. When in a text field, glide your finger from Adaptxt icon (blue Adaptxt symbol on it) to the chosen character to launch your predefined website, application or to perform a clipboard operation.
6. To delete a gesture, press on the bin icon next to it in Adaptxt Settings > Glide Beta > Customize gestures. To delete all gestures for the chosen option, press “Delete all” from device menu.
On your Android device go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Adaptxt. Adaptxt version details display at the top.
To navigate in the text or to perform copy, select, cut and paste operations, please press and hold the key Enter. Press on the keyboard symbol to return to the message.
ATR (Automatic Text Replacement) allows you to shorthand sentences to 2-character abbreviations and expands them in the text whenever you like. When you download Adaptxt language dictionary, you will be provided with one shortcut and its expansion, in the language you have installed. For example, the default shortcut for the English UK dictionary is ‘swc’, which can be expanded into ‘Sorry, I’m busy now. I’ll call you back.’ Shortcuts, such as ‘swc’, will be displayed in the suggestion bar with a plus sign next to them. If you wish so, you can create your own ATR combination by taking these steps:
1- Go to Adaptxt Settings > Personalize Suggestions > Shortcuts and Expansions
2- Tap on ‘Add’ at the top left, or select this option through a device menu button.
3- Tap below ‘Shortcut’ to insert a two, three or four character shortcut. For example: ‘hru’.
4- Tap below ‘Expansion’ and insert a phrase or a sentence. For example: ‘Hi, how are you?’
In addition, you can delete ATRs. Tap the ‘bin’ icon next to the unwanted ATR to delete it. You can also simply press ‘Delete All’ on the top of the screen to delete all ATRs.
Tip: If you can’t think of a shortcut, simply tap the ‘Generate ATR Shortcut’ button and let Adaptxt generate one for you.
Keyboard Customization is now a premium feature, a paid add-on. You can purchase premium features, themes and technical dictionaries directly from the Adaptxt Store under Adaptxt Settings.
To enter a ligature, insert a corresponding characters with halanta.
For example:

Yes Glide is a new exciting feature of Adaptxt that allows you to enter suggestions quickly and effectively. Slide over the characters without releasing your finger and the word will be inserted into text. Space will be inserted automatically when you start gliding another word. You can set your favourite Glide trace colour via Keyboard Customization > Glide.
Please note this feature is not available on 12-key layout.
If you prefer to enter words by traditional tapping, you can disable Glide from Adaptxt Settings > Glide Beta > untick the box next to Glide Beta.
You can open Quick Settings from Adaptxt keyboard: press+hold the Adaptxt key, one with a blue logo (123# key).
To replace accented characters with base ones in your text, please press and hold 123-key (with the blue Adaptxt symbol on it) and tap on the option “Remove accents”.

On QWERTY layout slide a space bar to the left or right to choose the keyboard language. On 12-key layout tap on the key with the globe and change the keyboard language.
Predictive mode is enabled by default when 12-key layout is in use. You can identify it by a border or highlighted background of the key ‘ABC’. If you prefer to multitap, tap on ‘ABC’ key once (a border highlight will disappear). Keep in mind that in both modes you can press and hold keys to get bubbles with desired characters or punctuation marks.
Adaptxt offers both QWERTY and 12-key layouts. To switch between them, tap on Quick Settings by pressing and holding the key with Adaptxt symbol, and tap on Settings > Themes and Layouts > Portrait/Landscape mode layout.
You can also choose between portrait and landscape modes on your device. This can be done in Adaptxt settings > Themes and Layouts > Keyboard layouts; select ‘Standard keyboard’ for QWERTY*, and ‘Phone keypad’ for 12-key layout.
* Standard keyboard type may vary depending on a language in use
To do so, open Adaptxt settings > Advanced settings and deselect the corresponding option
To change the keyboard theme, go to Adaptxt settings > Themes and Layouts > Keyboard theme and choose a different theme.
Adaptxt follows the most frequently used keyboard layout for each language. Additionally, we offer the option to rearrange the keys whichever way you wish (except for function keys), available through the Keyboard Customisation – paid add-on (Premium feature).
On QWERTY keyboard, to insert smileys, please press and hold the key with a smiley on it, drag your finger across the smileys pop-up to make a selection.
You certainly can. Press and hold the ‘Share’ key, which is located to the right handside of the space bar, and choose the network or application you want to post your message to. Please bear in mind that firstly you will be asked to log in to your social network account, and allow Adaptxt to access the chosen social network.
To hide the keyboard temporarily, press Back key on your device. To restore the keyboard, tap anywhere in any text field.
Go to Google Play to upgrade your Adaptxt

Once you downloaded and installed Adaptxt, please make sure you follow these steps to enable the product:
1. Make sure Adaptxt is still installed on your device and that you can see Adaptxt among other applications on your device.
2. Go to device Settings > Language and Keyboard and enable Adaptxt Keyboard.
3. Go to Adaptxt and navigate to ‘Adaptxt Store’; make sure the languages you previously installed are still in the Installed tab. If not, please tick the language(s) you wish to use.
4. Also make sure the Input Method is set to ‘Adaptxt’. In order to do so, open any text entry application and press and hold within a blank text field until the ‘Input Methods’ prompt pops out. Then select ‘Adaptxt’.
For Adaptxt to work you need to install at least one dictionary. After you downloaded and installed Adaptxt keyboard and a desired language or professional dictionary, you will see them in the Installed tab when you open Adaptxt Settings.
Adaptxt supports Android tablets running Android 2.2 and higher.

Adaptxt allows you to enable or disable ‘Vibrate on keypress’ and ‘Sound on keypress’ under Adaptxt Tablet Settings > Sound and Vibration.

Navigation is a feature that lets you move within text freely. Navigation keys are available in Landscape mode of the Split Keyboard.

When enabled, Split Keyboard also allows you to relocate the suggestion bar.
By default, the suggestion bar will be located above the keyboard. However, you can locate the Adaptxt suggestion bar either above or below the keyboard by taking these steps:
1- Make sure you are using the Split Keyboard
2- Go to Quick Settings
3- Go to Suggestion Control
4- Choose either ‘Below the keyboard’ or ‘Above the keyboard’
Although you can easily access keyboard layout settings through Adaptxt Tablet Settings menu, you can also switch between Full and Split keyboard while you type, by simply tapping on Quick Settings > Layouts and make your selection for the mode you are currently using.

In Layout settings, you can choose between Full Keyboard and Split Keyboard for both, Portrait or Landscape mode. Full Keyboard is the standard QWERTY keyboard, and the Split Keyboard allows you to use thumbs, by splitting the keyboard into two and pulling the halves to the sides of the screen. ıt is particularly useful when you don’t want to use Adaptxt in Landscape mode, and want to type with your thumbs easily to speed things up.
Adaptxt offers two layouts: Full Keyboard and Split Keyboard.
You can personalize suggestions with the Adaptxt Tablet > Personalize Suggestions > Learn From… feature, which learns from your social network posts, messages and contacts, including Android Dictionary words, Phonebook names or Facebook/Twitter information. Any new words will be added to ‘My Dictionary’.
For Facebook and Twitter, you will first need to log in to your account by navigating to Adaptxt Settings > Personalize Suggestions > Facebook (Twitter) to log in with your credentials. Once logged in, go back to Learn from > Facebook (Twitter) > Update Now
If you opt for the Android Dictionary option, click on Learn from > Import from Android dictionary.
For Phonebook, you can tap on + symbol and choose how often you would like Adaptxt to add new names from your Phonebook into your Adaptxt My Dictionary. You can do so by taking these steps: Settings > Personalize Suggestions > Learn From > Contacts > Auto Update Frequency, and select either ‘Weekly’ or ‘Monthly’. Alternatively, you can opt for turning ‘Auto Update’ off, and use ‘Update Now’ instead, to add words only when you wish to update ‘My Dictionary’.
You can also add the words directly to My Dictionary. To do so, please go to My Dictionary and press the soft menu button (varies depending on the device). You will see the option to add a word to the dictionary.
If you want to delete a word that has been added to your personal dictionary, you can do so by pressing the bin icon next to it in My Dictionary or by pressing and holding the word in the suggestion bar and choosing “Delete from dictionary”.
‘Shake’ function allows you to switch between Split and Full keyboard layouts by simply shaking the tablet. You can set the shake sensitivity by going to Adaptxt Tablet Settings > Shake Settings > Shake Sensitivity with 1 being least sensitive and 10 being the most sensitive setting.
The most common settings of Adaptxt can be accessed through ‘Quick Settings’, which can be found below the text field. In the pop-up menu you will find options to change layouts, enable or disable Private mode, ATR and others.
You can remove a word from ‘My dictionary’ by tapping on the ‘bin’ symbol next to that word: Adaptxt Settings > My Dictionary. You can also search for a word by pressing Menu key on your device > Search.
Additionally, you can remove a word directly from the suggestion bar; when the learned word appears in the suggestion bar, press and hold on it, choosing ‘Delete from the dictionary’ from the pop-up dialogue menu.
Please note that you can’t delete words from the default dictionary that comes with Adaptxt package.
To remove accents and diacritics from a text you create, open Quick Settings from your keyboard and choose the respective option.
When the Private mode is on, your writing patterns and new words will not be learned. To enable or disable this feature, go to Quick Settings > Private Mode to change its current state. You can see that the Private Mode is enabled, when a little spy image appears in the suggestion bar.

You can perform copy and paste by pressing and holding the shift key and selecting the text (please, use the left and right key on central button to select the desired part of the text). Afterwards, without releasing the shift key, you can see the “copy” option on the left bottom of the screen. Click on it. Move the cursor to where you want the text to be pasted. Press and hold the shift key again, and you will see “paste” on the right bottom of the screen. Click on it while pressing and holding the shift key, the text is pasted.
Purchasing an add-on does NOT have any effect on the licensing of the base trial package. To license a trial to a full version it is necessary to buy and run Adaptxt (Upgrade) product.
Due to Ovi limitations consumers in the following markets can download ONLY free of charge Ovi Store contentand cannot purchase Ovi Store content: Liberia, Libya, Philippines, South Korea, and Ukraine. According to Nokia, these countries are currently under premium content evaluation process. Full version of Adaptxt will be therefore not available when accessed form the above listed locations.
Additionally, India-based users will experience similar problem, except those utilizing the operator “Reliance”; they will be able to view and download paid content in Ovi Store. Unfortunately, paid content in Ovi Store is not accessible to other mobile network operators in India.

In Adaptxt for Symbian, suggestions are provided within a floating window that follows the text cursor. Use the up and down arrow keys to view all the suggestions and enter the selected suggestion with a single press of a scroll key.
To hide the suggestion window temporarily and navigate freely within text, press left or right arrow key. To move the cursor within the screen, scroll left, right, up, or down. The suggestion window returns automatically when you resume typing or if the cursor remains still for approximately 4 seconds.
PIM stands for “Personal Information Management”. PIM allows Adaptxt to learn your personal data by scanning Calendar entries, Phonebook contacts, SMS and E-mail (Inbox as well as Sent items).
Go to Adaptxt Options>PIM to open the PIM menu. The PIM menu has 4 tabs. Press the left or right arrow keys to navigate between these tabs. On the PIM tab (first tab), the following options are available:
•Scan Calendar: Scans all the calendar entries
•Scan SMS: Scans SMS messages received from the contacts added on the SMS tab (second tab).
•Scan E-mail: Scans e-mails received from the e-mail IDs added on the E-mail tab (third tab).
•Scan Domain: Scans e-mails received from the domains added on the Domain tab (last tab).
•Scan on Event: This option is automatically selected after the Scan Now process is complete. The Scan on Event scans the marked items when they are updated. For example, if Scan Contacts is marked along with Scan on Event, whenever new contacts are added to the phone, they are scanned.
To mark or unmark an item, highlight it and press the scroll key. Only the marked items are scanned.
Select Options>Scan Now to scan the marked items. An initial scan should be made to ensure all the data is learnt by Adaptxt.
The SMS and E-mail Sent items are scanned and learnt in real-time when the text is entered. Unread e-mails and draft SMS messages will not be scanned.
During the scan, Adaptxt is in maintenance mode and only Mulitap mode is available for text input.
Adaptxt for Symbian supports phones with full physical keyboard and 12 key layout; it is equally compatible with phones using QWERTY, AZERTY and QWERTZ physical keyboards. It can also be installed on phones using Greek and Cyrillic keypads, although language Add-Ons using the Cyrillic alphabet are only supported on 12-key phones.
