It’s exciting to see the app landscape evolve as Apple opens its doors to third party keyboards with the announcement of iOS 8. Our team is thrilled by the opportunity to collaborate with Apple and to get our award-winning Adaptxt keyboard in the hands of iPhone and iPad users across the globe.

In keeping with the spirit of innovation across connected devices and the evolution of mobile communication, our CEO Sumit Goswami commented on the news, saying: “We applaud Apple on iOS 8 and its decision to open up to third parties for an enriched experience. We have been working for some time on an iOS keyboard app. We are excited that Apple’s iOS 8 will support keyboards like ours in the fall when it debuts. We have been putting a lot into development to fine tune our context-aware typing that identifies the location of the user and what application they are running to provide more accurate and contextual word predictions. We also plan to soon unveil specialized dictionaries for law, health, telecom and other professionals that give our next-word prediction even that much more accuracy. Ultimately, we are aiming for effortless communication for iOS users.”

We ramped up our iOS team and we’ll be sure to update our blog with timely and relevant details on the development of our new keyboard. For additional information on Adaptxt’s existing keyboards, visit the Adaptxt features page.

Adaptxt v2.2 brings a slew of new keyboard features including Custom Gesture and Glide (beta)

Adaptxt v2.2 brings a slew of new keyboard features including Custom Gesture and Glide (beta)
The keyboard is probably the single most used application in a smart phone. It is the primary input tool and also one the most common means of interacting with the phone. At Key Point Technologies, our foremost objective has been to make the keyboard central to a smart phone’s user experience. Adaptxt was born from this objective. With previous versions, we were able to integrate interaction with social networks like Facebook and Twitter directly from the Adaptxt keyboard, that too with a simple tap. With our latest 2.2 version, we have added some remarkably smart features, which users should find extremely helpful and enjoyable.
With Adaptxt v2.2, we aim to add another dimension to the utility of the keyboard. With the aim of enhancing user experience, this latest update seeks to convert the keyboard into an access point for tasks frequently performed by users on their smart phones. Users constantly switch between applications when using their phones to perform different tasks. To do so, they have to close or exit one application, search and then launch the other application. Wouldn’t it be convenient to just access another application without having to exit the current one? Wouldn’t it make navigating on your smart phone so much easier? Many of our users made such requests and suggestions. So we did just that.
The latest version has taken user experience to the next level. We have added some innovative features that should make navigating on smart phones a whole lot easier. In Adaptxt v2.2, we have introduced two key features:

  • Custom Gestures
  • Glide Beta
With ‘Custom Gestures’, users can access any application by performing a simple gliding gesture on the keyboard. Users can create ‘Gesture Shortcuts’ that can be easily customized to open the app of their choice, frequently visited websites or to perform basic clipboard operations like cut, copy, paste, etc.
For e.g. If a user wants to quickly access YouTube while texting a friend, he/she can create a keyboard shortcut to YouTube on the Adaptxt keyboard and access it with a simple swipe gesture. This is now possible without having to close the messaging app, going to the home screen, searching and then accessing the app.
Users are given the freedom to create their own customized gesture shortcuts or modify the gestures offered by Adaptxt. In order to add a gesture shortcut for an application/website, the user can access the Custom Gesture menu by going to Adaptxt settings>>Glide Beta>>Custom Gestures. The activity defined by the user in this menu will be launched when gliding from the Adaptxt key to the destination key and after lifting the finger. For example, “Adaptxt + F” can be created to launch Facebook. The Facebook application will be automatically launched when the gesture is completed from the Adaptxt key to key F.
Users can edit their favourite shortcuts at any time. To edit a gesture shortcut for an application, users can tap on an existing shortcut in the Custom Gesture menu.
Adaptxt v2.2 brings a smart new feature to smart phones called Glide. The feature which has been released as a beta version is the first continuous input text solution on Google Play to support complex scripts such as Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada and Telugu. The feature also supports other complex scripts like Arabic, Thai, Korean, Tamil and Devanagari. Users can enable/disable Glide in the Adaptxt Settings. Users can also customize the colour of the Glide trace path using Keyboard customization; however this is a paid feature.
Another interesting feature added to v2.2 is the ability to modify clipboard shortcuts based to their convenience. A few predefined functions are as follows:

  • ‘Adaptxt + C’ = Copy
  • ‘Adaptxt + X’ = Cut
  • ‘Adaptxt + V’ = Paste
  • ‘Adaptxt + A’ = Select All
  • ‘Adaptxt + S’ = Select
Other supported Clipboard functions are:

  • Hide Keyboard
  • Go to beginning of message
  • Go to end of message
Download the Adaptxt v2.2 and experience the latest and most innovative smart phone keyboard in the market today. The best just got better!

Adaptxt holiday theme dictionary and keyboard featured on ZDNet

blog_appnews_blog 2Matt Miller at ZDNet reviewed our winter theme release dictionary and keyboard in a recent article.Matt wrote that he plans to show off his festive keyboard at get-togethers and holiday parties this weekend. But not only is the winter theme eye-catching, “Holiday words can also be turned on so that the Christmas dictionary words appear faster in the predictive engine. It is as simple as swiping across the space bar to switch between the dictionaries you has loaded as well.”

Since our background is in linguistic science as well as mobile application development, we decided that a holiday theme keyboard could not be released without an intelligent predictive dictionary to match. What would you like to see as our next seasonally-themed dictionary and keyboard? A Super Bowl theme in team colors with a football dictionary, or a Valentines’ Day red and white theme with a dictionary full of the sweetest sayings?

Happy Holidays from Adaptxt! Get in to the holiday spirit with a Yule-themed keyboard and dictionary

blog_appnews_blog 1Hello! One of our New Year resolutions here at KeyPoint is to blog more and shares our opinions and perspectives on current mobile industry issues and innovations with you.

Before we dive deeper in to a serious discussion, let’s first enjoy the holiday season by sending thoughts and sharing memories with family and friends. By using a keyboard app that enables next word predictions using artificial intelligence, users can slow down how fast they type while composing notes and texts more quickly and end up being more productive with little effort. And just in time for the holiday season, Adaptxt has released a festive and intelligent keyboard app in a new holiday theme dictionary and colored keyboard.

Included in the Christmas dictionary are commonly used Yule-time-themed words and phrases. For example, if you type “merry,” Adaptxt will suggest the next word you want to input is “Christmas.” Texting your holiday greeting is now easy! The keyboard appearance has been changed to a traditional red and green, overlaid with images of snowflakes, wrapped gifts and more.

Adaptxt is available for free by updating Adaptxt to the latest version via Google Play and the Christmas dictionary is available for download from the Adaptxt Add-On Manager.

Happy Holidays!
